In Greek mythology, a number of natural springs and tidal pools were said to have been blessed by the gods to cure disease and ease people’s ailments. The ancient Greeks established bathing facilities around these sacred pools and left offerings to the gods after they bathed, in the hope of being restored to health. Thousands of years later, we can reflect on these time-honoured rituals as the beginnings of what we now know as health spas.

Though tributes to deities and hopes of miracle cures have subsided, the practice of using baths, hot springs and vapour baths to boost health continues to help people all over the world to relax, unwind and repair their bodies and minds. The benefits of spa breaks in the middle of hectic modern lives are manifold and, though the treatments people receive at spas are of a non-medical nature, they are very much endorsed by doctors as a good way to improve the general health of the body and mind.

The strain put on the body by stress and fatigue can lead to the development of other health problems such as high blood pressure, cholesterol and weight gain. A relaxing spa weekend taken three or four times a year can significantly help to relieve stress by taking a person away from their job, their daily tasks and any other factors that may be contributing to the pressure on their mind or body.

The tradition of bathing to improve health has developed into sophisticated hydrotherapy treatments. Aerated baths use heat and the release of millions of bubbles to relax and regenerate people taking spa breaks. The circulating currents allow for an immediate transfer of heat to the body, relaxing tense muscles and increasing blood flow to the tissues.

SWIMSPOT.COM on Beauty's SPOT

I'm going to assume that though there is no Bikni-worthy airline ticket in my hand at this very moment, the universe has brought Swimspot.com into my blogging life as a whole, leap-before-the-net-(read Plane Ticket)-appears thing.

Um cause have you ever booked a last minute I'm-going-to-die-if-I-wake-up-to-another-grey-winter-weather-day trip and then actually tried to get a decent (read HOT) bathing suit at that (already awful) time of year? Yeah, me too. And the Target sales rack is majorly depressing at that time of year.

So when Swimspot.com came calling for bloggers opinion on their “Fit Specialist Program” – a free “personal shopper” for bathing suits I wasn't too optimistic. Too much target. Not enough Swimspot. Here's my two cents. Selection. AMAZING. Sizing chart? Phenom. Swimspot’s “Bikini Builder” that allows you to mix & match or mismatch the perfect swim look from separates (www.swimspot.com/bikini-builder.aspx)? Pretty awesome but would like a bigger selection within the tool itself. Here was my default combo since I couldn't actually see my blue NEXT top and black NEXT bottom together.

Though I don't have my NEXT dream bikini in hand yet, I think I have found the best bikini ever. The brilliance: using the top of a classic yoga pant style (which makes every woman about a thousand times more attractive) as the WHOLE bikini bottom. Amazing. Enough said. Never Leave Your Manduka

I'm starting to wonder if I have unknowingly joined a cult. Due to some fairly horrendous packing choices and poor organization on the day before my departure, I somehow left my Manduka behind. Not once in 2010 did I leave my home for more than 24 hours without my Manduka. And I have now made peace with the idea that cult or not, I literally can not leave home with out a Manduka and access to POWER Vinyasa.

Imagine yourself. Nestled into your geographic spiritual home; embedded in the breath-stealing San Juan Mountains, in the company of loving, lovely family and totally unable to be. No yoga mat, no way to live. So if you are new to yoga, or even old to yoga and have never bonded with a Manduka, think Avatar, and go here. My next Manduka will be the travel-friendly lovely that provides insurance against even the WORST pre-departure experiences. Enjoy!

I can not tell you the number of times I have heard "WHAT ARE THOSE? I LOVE THEM!" In the last week. I have worn these cable-knit, olive-colored beauties every day for the last five days. Under 3/4 length cropped sweaters, over cotton stretch long tee's, over tight knit sweaters, with a tank at 6:30 a.m. yoga and yes, even, to bed. And in every location at least one person (except in bed of course) has said....

We in North Carolina have been borrowing some of Lands' End's native arctic weather but still even when winter thaws this year I'll be dreaming up excuses to work these comfy beauties into my wardrobe. What is your first memory of beauty products?
As a child I suffered from acne so my first memory of beauty products was using acne treatment products. They were so awful to use because they smelled horrible and often left my skin dry and flaky. It has been my mission with the creation of my new acne collection (launching in February 2011) to use natural ingredients that are powerful, yet gentle and help to keep skin clear, and blemish free.

At what age did you start wearing makeup?
I started wearing makeup and really taking care of my skin at the age of 16.

If you could apply only one product for the next month what would it be?
I would die if I could not use my moisturizer. First and foremost, moisturizer helps to hydrate the skin leaving it soft, smooth and younger looking. In a pinch, a moisturizer can be used as a cleanser and can even remove makeup.

If you could give one product to all women in the world what would it be?
My new Acne Spot Treatment! Whether you are young or old, we all have blemishes. My new vanishing spot treatment is absolutely amazing because it can be used in the a.m. or p.m as an emergency spot treatment and also may be used to treat and prevent routine acne. Everyone feels and looks their best when their skin is clear and blemish free!

If you could ban one harmful ingredient from all beauty products what would it be?
I would ban parabens, which are a specific type of preservative that protect food and cosmetics against microbial contaminants, specifically yeast and mold. Recent studies show that parabens may cause cancer and cause allergic reactions/skin rashes. I have recently reformulated my entire line and have removed all parabens and I have seen such a difference in my formulas, they are more efficacious and feel and smell absolutely wonderful.

What is your favorite skincare ingredient?
My favorite ingredient is Gogi Berry. I eat them every day and I have added Goji Berry extract to every one of my products because they are the most powerful anti-oxidant that helps neutralize free radicals, protect skin from environmental toxins and combat the visible signs of premature aging. They are known as “The King of All Berries” and contain carotenoids such as beta-carotene and zeaxanthin, over 18 different amino acids and is a source of Vitamins B1, B2, B6 and C. I am also working with her on creating her own line of beauty products…and that is not all!

Whose beauty do you most admire?
I have always been fascinated by how people in different countries take care of their skin. Wherever I travel, I spend hours in various stores and spas looking at the products and speaking to the sales associates and I have to say that I admire Asian women’s skin the most…they have an overall radiance to their skin that gives them a young, healthy glow. In my travels to Asia I am always amazed to see how many women have absolutely flawless skin and it is because they take such great care of their skin, by using a comprehensive skincare regimen that incorporates products that help to illuminate the skin and reduce the signs of sun damage and hyperpigmentation. Their beauty was the inspiration for my Brightening Serum and Moisturizer which include natural botanical brighteners that give an overall radiance to the skin.

What was your best Spa experience?
I received the most amazing massage of my life in Phuket, Thailand. There is something so special about receiving a therapeutic Thai massage while staring out at the white sands and deep blue Andaman Sea.

Elemis Couples with Bliss Spa

As is my tradition when I am in a city lucky enough to house a bliss spa within its blocks, I make it my duty to stop in and fill up my cup. Having had a particularly jarring Sunday evening, I nodded at the serendipity of my well-timed appointment with world's first bliss. Located on Broadway between Prince and Houston, I realized suddenly that the Dean and DeLuca (both of whom I've decided to marry) I've been frequenting is only a few doors down. Despite having been to this, the original bliss before, I had not, until today, realized these two Manhattan merchants of all things heavenly are actually, neighbors. Love thy neighbor, indeed.

My trip today was in honor of another celestial pairing of powerhouse brands. Two new Elemis treatments (a facial and a body scrub) are now on the bliss menu. Can you think of anything more delightful? No no, neither can I. International powerhouse Elemis has decided to have a fling with the Spa industry's most playful outpost. Bliss meet Elemis. Elemis meet bliss. You'll get along just fine.

My first Vichy shower was at Bliss San Francisco and I will never, ever forget it. It was the first time I had been fully bathed, scrubbed and oiled up like a limp toddler in adulthood and it was absolutely one of the most pleasurable days of my existence. This was a similar journey, only with Elemis Japanese Camilla Oil heated and rubbed over the majority of my flesh. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

Liz Earle Natually Acitve Eye Makeup Remover

Physically speaking, I'm about the most sensitive person on the planet. I can't drink caffeine, don't tolerate loud noises and anything with a toxic chemical makes me feel sick. Denim to Love: Charlotte Russe

As far as denim goes, nothing but designer has touched this derriere since college. A few weeks ago I stopped by my favorite luxury PR firm in Manhattan and they gave me jeans from Charlotte Russe. Doubtful to say the least, I slipped them on to find HEAVEN. These, double button, low rise, dark denim slices of heaven do everything my $200 designer jeans do. New York City: Foot Survival Guide

Beyonce Paints L'Oreal Red

In May of 2009 I met Beyonce backstage at the Greensboro, North Carolina stop of her 'I Am Sasha Fierce' tour. Surprisingly, it was a major moment in my life.

See, Beyonce and I are the same age. In meeting her, it was obvious that she was living inside her passion, using every talent she had been given and not apologizing for any of it. I saw with my own eyes that she is 1) an angel and 2) embracing and being just exactly who she is at all times. So when she reps L'Oreal I believe her. For reals. Her new commercial for L’Oréal Paris’ latest Infallible Stars Never Fail Lipcolour Compact has just hit the airwaves. (You must check out Beyonce Red)

From Brooklyn to the Rainforest: A Manhattan Mani-Pedi Story

It's been just under seven years since I've lived in Manhattan proper. During that first stint as a New Yorker every experience I had in Brooklyn centered in Williamsburg and ended with a firm resolution to never return. Last night, having a vague sense that I owed the journey to an old friend, I boarded the subway for the 45 minute excursion. Happily, I found nothing but beauty in the borough across the bay. Delighted by a magical neighborhood of old country estates and panoramic views from the Statue of Liberty to the Empire State building, I find myself wondering why exactly I'm in Manhattan at the moment.

Manhattan is demanding- which is one of the (many) reasons I love it. Still, after demanding my feet to march the entirety of the island in one week, they were long overdue for downtime. I decided a retreat to the rainforest might give me some perspective on that other exotic distant land, Brooklyn.

I took my reprieve on West 8th Street at the eco-friendly Eve Salon.

Their seasonal Rainforest Renewal Manicure and Pedicure and uber comfortable pedi couches provided the respite I needed to reflect on my return to Brooklyn. Doing what all lacquer-obsessed New Yorkers do, I stopped by the mothership on the Northeast corner of Union Square in search of a replacement. Not since Tom Hanks laid eyes on Daryl Hannah has a New Yorker found such a beautiful Mermaid below 17th street. Behold, "Mermaid to Order" the oceanic queen of OPI for Sephora. Two shades to the left of my teal, Mermaid to Order splashed her magic all over my yoga class this morning. Enjoy!

On this trip however after years of hot and cold, I can finally say Carrie's man is winning me over BIG time. I found my yoga home away from home. In fact I just got out of one of one of the best classes of my life. Sure I fell out of tree pose because the teacher was making me laugh too hard but that, my friends, is how you know you are home- the laughter. Also, Fleetwood Mac and Van Morrison made the play list. For real? LOVE it.

Packing it up

Tomorrow I leave for a month in New York. My clothes are packed. Books look they will fit. But there is no earthly way I can possibly fit the beauty closet into regulation-sized luggage and pay less than $300 in baggage fees. Bummer. So it's time to keep only what really really matters. The Ritz Carlton, A New Shanghai Location

The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong, opened on June 21. As the luxury hotel brand’s second property in the city, and its seventh in China, the opening came with much fanfare including tweets from RC president Simon F. Cooper.

In case you are not following Simon F Cooper's twitter account: "I'm extremely proud to welcome our 7th hotel in #China into the portfolio. The Ritz-Carlton Shanghai, Pudong." Can the Ritz-Carlton get any hipper? Really, how many corporations have their presidents tweeting their latest? So fab.

Located in Shanghai ifc, the prime real estate in Lujiazui financial trade zone, the hotel (and development) is the work of architect Cesar Pelli. The 285-room property occupies the top 18 floors of the Shanghai ifc South Tower. Opening during June's World Expo, the design and style of the hotel is contemporary, with hints of new interpretations of 1930’s Shanghai Art Deco. Instilled with a great sense of place, the hotel's guest rooms and restaurants embrace magnificent sweeping views over The Bund – the most intact collection of Art Deco architecture anywhere in the world.

Bliss Lemon & Sage Body Scrub

Bliss was my first love. In fact this blog wouldn't exist were it not for a well-timed road trip to San Francisco and an a serendipitous spa stop at said city's relaxation haven. Still, I'm always amazing by how MUCH I love nearly everything they make. This little nugget of bliss came as part of the Poetic Waxing Kit from QVC. (Still trying to stop laughing long enough to get that post on the page.) This body scrub for example, not only smells like heaven but has a smooth non-sticky feel AND is the consistency of cookie dough when only the butter and sugar have been added. Delish. If it washed off my day, I promise it will bring a better end to yours also. Enjoy!

A MUST have shopping experience....

I have a new favorite.....it's called shopping over the phone...with a brilliant store called LaLa- a Kerry Cassill boutique. I am one of the unfortunates who does not live in Laguna Beach, California, yet I feel the need to have many things that come out of this store located far, far away from me. Is this a shopping conundrum? NO, it most definitely is not! This is because the staff at LaLa are the ultimate in personal shopping...over the phone! I gather my visual ideas from their website and from their Facebook page, to see exactly what my heart is longing for....then I simply make the call 949-464-9220, talk to either the lovely Tessa or to Kerry herself...and the clothes are on the way to my doorstep! It's magically delicious!!!!!!

If you enjoy feeling naked, yet appearing clothed beautifully, colorfully, and uniquely, these are the clothes for you. Kerry roamed the world and found perfection in the most comfortable, lux weight Indian fabrics. This is more than clothing; it's a lifestyle that makes you feel magical.

This week I put EO all purpose soap in the dishwasher, laundry, bathroom sink, and shower and I can happily say all of my worldly goods are chemical-free and clean. The food....MMMMMMM

I'm back in Durham where culinary delights are limited to locopops and Dos Perros. Still, my stomach is stuck in the gastrointestinal fantasy land that is The Ritz Carlton Palm Beach. Breeze, their sea-side burger bar (pictured above), is open from 11-7 daily with ocean-front tables and every imaginable combination of burger to delight every sense in your tanned, massaged, fully-flexible yoga body.

On weekends Sushi Joe is in the lobby serving up the best sushi I have ever put in my mouth. Then there is the Temple Orange where the breakfast buffet will literally blow your mind. Everything you can ever imagine eating for breakfast (besides the Chicken foot soup my Indonesian host mother used to serve me) is available and served on a silver platter. Enjoy!

Eau So Yoga with Jimmy Barkan at The Ritz Carlton, Palm Beach

A sunrise over the ocean which seemed oddly directed at my very own balcony. Flocks of pelicans flying over head and then - this morning, a solitary duck. Chilled waterfalls of relief pouring into luxuriously sized hot tubs. Hot tubs filled with playful over sized rubber ducks. Chocolate Mocha cupcakes on the spa bar. Massages that start with healing spoonfuls of honey and end with a limber flip of the upper body over top of the knees and suddenly you are born anew. Eau So New.

I've just returned from Palm Beach where I rang in the month of May with The Ritz-Carlton's Eau so Yoga weekend. Daily 90-minute yoga sessions overlooking the ocean were taught by yoga legend Jimmy Barkan. Until the late 90's Jimmy was the only certified Bikram trainer and in the early part of this century he developed his own teaching style aptly named, the Barkan Method.

I've become a bit of a yoga fanatic over these last four short months and class with Jimmy invigorated my practice with a gentle (manual) hip rotation here and subtle "ring finger forward" in downward dog" cue there. I'm also quite certain my hips now operate like a lazy Susan - no longer hinged in any one direction. I have never experienced hip openers like Jimmy's.

You can visit Jimmy at his own (twenty eight year old) studio in Ft Lauderdale or at any of his teacher trainings. Meantime, Eau So Yoga will happen during various weekends through out the summer. (Next weekend!) Check for dates here.

Looking Out on the Morning: Eau So Yoga Day One

After a healing massage yesterday (details to come) and a restorative nights sleep I stepped on to my balcony at 6:30 am and watched the sunrise light the passing clouds on fire as it rose over the elderly Atlantic. Palm Beach is an odd sign post of America's growing pains but here with in the courtyards of the Ritz-Carlton the sun rises, the pelicans fly over head and everything you could ever imagine that you need is at your fingertips. Highlights from yesterday were numerous. Sushi - as in the best I've ever had. Sushi-Joe is your place for spicy, melt-in-your-mouth lobster rolls. Massage at Eau Spa. My body has never before been touched and relieved in that way. And a self centered garden which oddly enough, left me relaxed enough to see how disenchanted I have become with my own self centered-ness.

Eau So Yoga starts at 8:30 am with ninety minute class from sought out instructor Jimmy Barkan. Like the clouds who where unknowingly transformed by the sun's reach for the aging east coast on this beautiful spring morning, I have a feeling I'm in for a transformation I could neither plan nor imagine. Such things are only in the mind of the world's most expert hospitality angels, the ladies and gentleman of the Ritz-Carlton.

I've been wanderlusting all over myself this spring. When I need to add visceral weight to my imaginings I tend, as in all my other needs, to turn to my skin care. Sissy Toes by My Little Sis!

This will be my most favorite blog post ever, mostly because it was written by my little sister who is the cutest 8 year old on the planet. She has decided she wants to be a writer and a blogger. I decided she didn't have to wait. She has also had more mani-pedi's than most women will ever have in their entire life time. For this one she chose OPI Blue My Mind. She is the cutest!!!

My sister is the best sister ever ! This weekend we had the my half b-day weekend! My sister picked me up from school Friday afternoon. We did: go and eat custard - it was amazing! We had movie night! The next day we got sissy toes it was so fun and relaxing! Then we went to this amazing sushi place now we watch Alvin and the Chipmunks! I'll write some time soon again!

OPI Teal the Cows Come Home

Picking a nail color used to be like picking a good apple. Based on defined set a parameters (trend, availability, and texture) I'd always end up in season but in a way that was emblematic of my personal taste (matte/Audrey for nails; Pink Lady, Granny Smith for apples).

Then my yoga obsession changed everything. OPI's Teal the Cows Come Home has nothing to do with my historic personal style. It is NOT matte. It is sparkly, metallic, teal like the jewels of northern New Mexico's native's wares laid on Mexican blankets in the town plaza. And I'm thinking of stock piling it in case OPI ever ..well let's not even talk about that.

I will never wear anything else. There was only one criteria for picking this color. In yoga, we do a lot of reaching for our fingertips and toes. I would follow this color to the ENDS of the Earth. I feel inches taller when reaching towards this mermaid, yogini, native American sparkly teal. OPI - I HEART YOU. Our lives get complicated and we go to Yoga. Because on the mat, everything is simple.

In fact we go to yoga no matter what but this week we've decided it's time. Time to get away. To a place where we only ever have to use one of three required verbal ques for all of our communications.

1)"Yes, I would like a complimentary smoothie."

2)"Could you tie up my Bikini before I go for a swim?"

3) "Is it time for ocean view yoga yet?"

Today we looked into the Ritz Carlton Puerto Rico where the Spa Director IS the Yoga Instructor. We think this will require even less effort to get our needs met and LOOK at these pictures!!! I took one of the most intense yoga classes of my LIFE at the Ritz Carlton Georgetown (and you know, the Ritz, is well, the Ritz. Hopping into EVERYTHING with Havaianas

Fishing. Bike Riding. Yoga. Babysitting. Walking in the woods. My Havaianas are taking me everywhere this spring. Not since the days of living in the Indonesian archipelago or vacationing in Colorado have I so deliriously dipped into every whisper of adventure that nuzzled my ear. After 20 miles on the bike yesterday my bum is exhausted but my feet are (still) adorably adorned with these toe feathers.

This season the "Slim Peacock" is populating the pages of yoga catalogues and flip flopping all over the mulch on the play ground. (You should see how adorable they are on the seven year old girl who I babysit for.) For women's sandals (or kid's) the easiest, chic-est way to go toe to toe with adventure this summer is to go Havaianas.

LOVE the New LOFT

Girls!!!! I have moved out of my little Chapel Hill writer's apartment and into the most amazing flat just a few short miles down the road. My Internet took a few weeks to find the new location so please forgive my absence.

Finally settled into the new place, tonight I rest my imagination within the deeply creative pages of the look book for the LOFT Spring 2010 collection and it's AMAZING. Not simply because the models are often shown with artful piles of hair atop their head (mimicking my favorite personal style) but also because it's full of rich pieces - pieces one used to only be able to find at hip boutiques or anthropologie in their earlier days.

The two pieces LOFT sent to accompany the spiral bound book are, aptly, look-defining pieces. Pieces that express a hidden part of your personality and attach it to your appearance like a magnate which draws similarly expressive pieces to you. The gold cuff (featured above) adds an unmistakable Greek goddess strength to any look while the floral scarf welcomes spring in an classic Audrey kind of way. In other words, I ADORE.....

Ladies, for years when the question of "what type of skin do you have" has been posed, I'm left agonizing over which box to tick. Is it oily, is it dry, is it sensitive, combination? Yes? Is there a yes to all box to check? Truthfully, my skin is the neon sign flashing all of my stress and worries. It flushes, it pales, but my greatest cause of self consciousness has always been the uneven tone and redness I have never been able to shake. Until now, that is. Shiseido was founded in 1872 (think about that for a moment, ladies, I was STUNNED!) making it one of the oldest and most prestigious beauty companies in the world. After many chapped winters and sleepless nights showing on my face, I've finally begun to soothe and nourish my skin in the way I've always hoped was available. My new year's resolution was to take just that little bit of extra time and consideration for my beauty routine, beginning with the ritual of cleansing. In the morning I wake to the faint fresh blossom scent of my brightening and cleansing foam, thick and luxurious. It's one of the most peaceful moments of my day. After cleansing I use the brightening refining softener, and finish with the SPF for a lightweight layer of moisture and protection. For the evenings I simply don't apply the SPF. It's only been 2 weeks and within the FIRST WEEK I saw a noticeable difference in the ages spots (let's be frank here, ladies), and the redness and uneven patches are really lightening. I'm truly happy with this trio of products and plan on expanding into the others in the series. I'll keep you posted on the improvements. Calm, bright, happy skin, here we come, and a little me time in my day is now a real routine!

Q: What was your inspiration for this look? How did you collaborate with the designer to create the look?
“Kate, Laura, and I wanted to create a hair look with a dreamy, almost childlike feeling. From the front, the hair looks like it is left down, but in back, it is controlled, adorned with metal flowers that look like barrettes. There’s also a Mexican influence on the look, since the Rodarte collection this season is inspired by bordertowns. In the beautysphere, when you say "Robin Coe-Hutshing" it's a bit like uttering the name of Poseidon at water's edge or speaking of "Oprah" at the journalism section of a college job fair. You will get a reaction and everyone instantly recognizes that you are speaking not only of the individual mentioned but also to the reason you are all gathered in the first place. Robin Coe-Hutshing has so defined the beauty industry that it could not actually exist as it does today with out her.

I sit tonight in the same writers studio I've rented for three and a half years. Surrounded by beauty products and burdened by the mountain of debt one accumulates while chasing a dream that pays only in product.

I've been tempted to give up. I've gone round and round about the increasing traffic and decreasing advertising (and even wondered if I am in fact contributing the demise of the magazine industry I so dearly love) but ultimately I land here at this moment with myself and Ms. Hutshing's stunning new debuts and I'm reminded why I do it. There have been other moments like this one. Interviewing Liz Earle, Anastasia (Oprah's eyebrow lady!), and of course Beyonce. Still this moment on the first night of February, is particularly sweet because it brings me directly back to the beginnings of Beauty's Spot.

In early 2008 my dear friends Erika and Kristen introduced themselves to me for the first time at Fred Segal in LA. The Same Questions I Ask Everyone with Liz Earle

I first laid eyes on the Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare line a year and half ago during its long-awaited US launch. (The Brits had been keeping it from us for over a decade!) Since that time I have known this in an exceptional collection of unique, effective, even spiritual products.

Growing up I had a theory that beauty actually came only from the inside and that depending on your metal health and general happiness you could actually increase your beauty. (Since then I've watched enough reality television to know that beauty comes on the outside of many packages, some beautiful on the inside and some, well, not.)

Still, Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare is the only skincare line that I actually feel works in that same way. Perhaps it's Liz's extensive botanical knowledge or the care put into the cultivation of each product but I actually feel as if Liz's products harness the power of your inner beauty and maximize the potential of your outer beauty. In fact I've spent most of the week thinking that since my Superskin Concentrate (an oil I smother beneath my eyes every morning) and my Bust Treatment are nearly gone it is proof that my life is in fact dirt.

Then I was granted an interview with this most brilliant goddess of skincare, Liz Earle herself. Though I am honored by every skincare entrepreneur who graces the pages of Beauty's SPOT to have Liz Earle visit with us is a true honor. I hope you learn as much as I did from reading her words of wisdom. As a former beauty editor and author of 30 titles, Liz has paved a beautiful path for the rest of us to follow.

1. What is your first memory of beauty products?

My father is a keen gardener and plantsman and I spent many a long hot summer helping him dig, plant and harvest home-grown herbs, vegetables and flowers, and I’ve always had a passion for researching the fascinating properties of plants and the effects they can have on the skin.

This lifelong fascination with botanicals and natural remedies led to my early career as a magazine health and beauty editor. I went on to write several bestselling books on the therapeutic power of herbs, plants, vitamins and essential oils. My good friend (and now business partner) Kim Buckland had the original idea to bring much of my research and specialist knowledge together to create a wonderful range of affordable, pampering, fuss-free skincare treats that actually work! That was 15 years ago and the rest, as they say, is history.

2. At what age did you start wearing makeup?

I think I probably started experimenting with lip gloss and glittery nail varnish at around the age of 10, similar to my own daughters now!

3. If you could apply only one product for the next month what would it be?

Here in the UK we have had a real cold snap, so over the next month I will be focusing on ensuring that my skin is well hydrated, nourished and protected from the elements. The best ingredients for helping your skin to retain its own moisture reserves are plant oils which mimic the skin’s own naturally effective moisture barrier, sebum. 4. If you could give one product to all women in the world what would it be?

The starting point for smooth, radiantly clear skin is undoubtedly our multi-award winning Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser which celebrates its 15th Anniversary this year. This luxuriously creamy, plant-based cleanser is used together with the pure cotton muslin cloth provided which helps to boost the circulation and stimulate cell renewal to help keep skin soft and smooth. The Cleanse & Polish is enriched with purifying rosemary and eucalyptus extracts and skin softening cocoa butter, while the soft muslin cloth has the perfect texture to gently exfoliate by buffing away dead skin cells, revealing instant radiance. 5. If you could ban one harmful ingredient from all beauty products what would it be?

Although mineral oils are not harmful, I would suggest that all bland mineral oils, used in beauty products, should be replaced with potent plant oils. I am a firm believer in the potent powers of plant oils to make a genuine difference to your skin. Plant oils are absorbed within the upper levels of the epidermis so they soften far more than mineral oils. Plant oils are much more compatible with the skin and they mimic the skin’s own naturally effective moisture barrier, sebum, and leave skin silky smooth. They are also rich in the natural form of Vitamin E and skin-saving essential fatty acids, which is why we only use plant oils, not mineral oil, in the Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare range.

6. What is your favorite skincare ingredient?

I swear by natural source vitamin E. I could practically write a book just about this wonderful skin-friendly substance, mainly derived from vegetable oils. As natural source vitamin E is up to three times more potent than the synthetic variety, we only ever use the naturally derived vitamin E in our products. Naturally sourced vitamin E helps to defend the skin from damaging effects of ultraviolet light, to optimize moister levels and improve appearance. It also delays skin ageing by fighting free radicals. One of the main ways vitamin E works is by protecting the phospholipids (fatty acids) in cell membranes, which form the ‘cement’ of the skin barrier and are major targets of attack by free radicals. As well as looking for naturally sourced vitamin E in skincare, I also recommend taking it internally as it can act as an internal anti-ager, making you beautiful from the inside out. As vitamin E is not as easily found in foods as other vitamins (its main sources are avocados, nuts and seeds), a daily supplement is useful – but look for the words ‘natural source’ on the pack.

7. What is the last product you created?

We recently added three new products to our top selling Superskin range; Superskin Eye & Lip Treatment, Superskin Bust Treatment and Superskin Body Cream. My favorite is our Superskin Body Cream as this ultra-rich body cream is our most intensive moisturiser ever, helping mature or very dry skin look and feel rejuvenated and replenished. At the heart of our Superskin Body Cream, we are using a variety of shea butter from a lesser known sub-species. Shea butter produced from the nuts of the East African shea, Vitellaria paradoxa nilotica, is lighter and finer in texture and so sinks more easily into the upper levels of the epidermis. This enables us to use more of it without overloading the skin or causing any kind of greasiness. Pagosa Springs: Colorado's Hidden Gem

The poor man's SPA (or is it the only authentic definition of SPA?) is the hot spring, bubbling up naturally from between shifting tectonic plates, releasing the heat of an earth rumbling largely unnoticed in many parts of the world, or in this case - across the San Juan river. Pagoasa Springs is the revelation of hot springs. There is no Hot Spring in America that more adeptly quenches the thirst of all those who may be seeking healing from the earth or just a good manly dip in a snow-banked river between soaks. With the peaks of the San Juan Mountains scratching a piercing blue sky all around you and a crystal clear river providing prey to the fly fishermen beneath you, I promise you will never have a better soak than in the waters the Natives called "Pah gosah."

I can imagine no better place to turn 29 and I'm quite certain that while laying out on a slab of rock in my bikini with 103 degree water massaging my back and the Colorado sun rehabilitating my sickly white skin, something changed in me. Something fundamental, like an internal polar shift and without my even noticing it, on the last day of 2009, while turning 29, happiness became me.

Baume Ultra Riche Yeux from L'Occitane

That's "rich in Shea butter" for those of you who can't speak french. Oh wait I can't speak french either but along with the $32.00 you pay for this heavenly eye cream you'll also get the free french lesson included in each line of the packaging which is printed En Frances and English.

Minor point but my major point is this - L'Occitane's Ultra Rich Eye Balm is .5 ounces of heaven. I have always been sucker for eye treatments but this little jar of French heaven has convinced me that if I were forced to pick only one type of beauty product for the rest of my life it would be an eye product.

This is truly a balm delivering copious amounts of moisture with no irritation. Its thick cream spreads easily and seemingly flattens out the wrinkles around the eye instantly. As with most high quality products a very little bit goes a very long way. J'adore. Enjoy!

Sadly, I abandoned my small town alma mater Townsend Bertram and Co for zappos.com as I'm completely strapped for time.

These water-resistant Sorel Snow Angels have the traction to trek up any mountain and a cozy fleece lining. For $85.00 you really can't ask for much more. The Oakley (they make more than sporty sunglasses) Sister Pant is a low-waisted wide leg ski pant for only $100. I got hooked on the inviible thigh vents and the D-ring fastened to the waist line. Yes, I will be using that for my lift ticket.

Travel with Jurlique: Carry-on Love Balm

There is no way the TSA will even contemplate confiscating this .5 oz tin of perfection. Jurlique's Love Balm instantly soothes rough dry patches. In an unwittingly brilliant move I put this in my makeup bag while packing for yesterday's flight. Midflight with my knees forcibly smashed into the seats in front of me I somehow yogini-ed my way towards the dry patches on both ankles and my right love handle with gobs of this Love Balm smeared over my index finger and it was instant (organic) relief. Benefit has wowed me once again, touting both the titles of all natural and incredibly user friendly. As you take in the bottle it seems a bit intimidating, appearing as though the contents are either neon pink or nail polish. It *is* packaged just like a bottle of nail polish, and upon opening one discovers a tiny brush applicator! What appears to be a shocking shade of bright pink Poppy actually goes on sheer, weightless, and majorly natural. I have to admit that my expectations were low as I'm multi-cultural and usually blushers in shades of daring pink simply just don't work with my skin tone, but I'm happy to report that this added just the right pop of color to the apples of my cheeks, and is layer-able for whatever your little heart desires. Available in Posietint (poppy pink), and Benetint (rose). Enjoy!

Yesterday my lips gave in and developed their own bright red liner. Not the lovely liner that comes from the perfect application of my most favorite Estee Lauder lip pencil, but the irritated flaky mess that arrives annually at the very same moment when the thermometer drops below 35. Luckily for me the beauty closet was packed with and handful of True Shimmer Chapsticks. I adore them!

The Botanical Berry and Blended Fruit Sherbet are my favs. My girlfriend is over at the moment I stopped doing my makeup twice to make her smell them. L'Oreal gave me this divine Carlos Falchi Shopping Tote back in September and though I was originally lackluster about its bluster I have grown to A-dore it! Not only is the cheery floral lining divine but the internal organization and magnetic closure are sturdy and well designed. November being the shittiest month of the latter part of my twenties, I haven't had much to say. I like this to be a place of beauty and between the completely unattractive behavior that's been decking the halls of my workplace and nearly every ex-boyfriend becoming engaged or knocking someone (else) up I've been entirely at loss for anything beautiful to say. Onward - to the most beautiful thing I've said all month: Thank God November is over.

Dior Shadow Brow Styler: Every chic city gal needs this. A little length in your brow adds Audrey-like glamour to any day or evening look and this brilliantly bright little pencil from Dior is to die for. Allure Mag sent it to me and I agree with them.... You must!

Liz Earle SuperSkin Bust Treatment: If your girls get dry and dull in the winter a little lovin from Liz Earle will perk them right up. Liz sent me this glorious gift for Christmas and I'm totally smitten. The package claims this luxe, earthy cream will "plump, smooth, and firm skin around the bust decolletage" and after a full month of faithful use, I have to agree. Enjoy! Kiehl's Imperial Body Balm: The lovely ladies at Kiehls gave me this new body balm back in September so when that oddly terse patch of skin appeared on my tummy (as it does annually when the thermometer drops below 50) I knew just where to go. Russians know cold and this balm is based on Russian herbal remedies. So amazing. The only thing that will literally squelch that sleep disturbing, itchy winter skin. You MUST!

A few weeks back Lucky Magazine welcomed Beauty's SPOT as one of only 100 Alpha Shoppers. We are highly honored to be part of such an elite group. As a welcome gift the gals at Lucky sent this adorable book, The Lucky Guide to Mastering Any Style. Each look (American Classic, Gamine, bohemian, etc) is accompanied by a shopping guide with various stores that support each style. North Carolina being the land of boat shoes and straight men who regularly wear pastel colored pants it wasn't completely shocking to see a boutique with locations in Raleigh and Wilmington supporting the Shopping Guide to the American Classic look. What was shocking was that there wasn't' a boat shoe in sight on Beanie + Cecil's website. With brands like Tibi and Catherine Maldrino (and a solid denim collection) I'll have to make a point to stop by. Have you girls been there? Thoughts?

I'm Dating Jo Malone

Our first date was the stuff of classic films. After meeting through a mutual acquaintance, I agreed to attend his event on Fashion's Night Out back in September. After walking a half-Manhattan sized route because every reccesionista had splurged on a cab to transform into a fashionista for New York's Chic-est night out, I finally reached the upper east side event. Greeted with scents too delicious to even fathom, unless you are in the presence of the brilliant Jo Malone himself, Jo proceed to make me a personalized bouquet.

If you don't know by now, I'll let you in on a little secret. Jo is in fact a brand. Sadly it's true that while a man has never made me a personalized bouquet, a brand has. Come to think of it beauty brands do lots of things for me that men, to date, have not. This, I suppose, is why I'm a 28 year old beauty blogger and not a housewife.

Tonight on what may have been one of this year's worst days I finally broke out my "worst day ever" stash. I have now slathered myself from head to toe in Jo's orange blossom body creme and am happily avoiding all thoughts of today be reliving my one night with Jo back in September. The scent instantly lifted my bad mood and delivered thoughts of cheerier times like returning to my hotel room in times square with the most beautiful bouquet I'd ever seen.

I'm hoping he'll show up for Christmas with this, the most beautiful Candle set I've ever seen.

One Night in Proximity: The Greenest Hotel In America

Last month I had the extravagant pleasure of spending one night at America's only LEED Platinum Certified Hotel, The Proximity in Greensboro, North Carolina. I was a bit surprised to find it, to date, to be the nicest hotel I have ever patronized. Perhaps it was the eco-friendliness or the sublime design of everything from the locally made furniture to the most amazing bathroom door (think barn door meets Restoration Hardware) that charmed me. Though It could have also been the checkered cab or the Greenway. One night at The Proximity and I felt like a new woman. Emerging triumphantly into the world after the most restful sleep I have ever known, I did in fact have the best weekend of 2009.

Happily the French extravagance that wafted into my room (love a hotel room with windows that open) from Print Work's Bistro in the form of Carla Bruni's classic tunes was balanced by my neighbors, Da Swag City Tour, who apparently like to rest their bling in eco-friendly haunts just as much a Greensboro Orchestra going set who were also in town for a special concert. Apparently, everyone is going green and doing so together in the lobby of The Proximity. Enjoy!

The Same Questions I Ask Everyone....With Juara Skincare's Yoshiko Roth

Yoshiko loves her job. In August while very pregnant, she took a train from New York to D.C. so that she might present Juara's newest launches to the area's hottest beauty bloggers. Skincare seems to be more than the domain where she performs her adept entrepreneurship. Juara is, indeed (especially when that deed is getting on a train while pregnant) her calling.

As Juara's Co-founder she is the nose behind the brand's cult favorite Tiare Jasmine Rollerball Perfume Oil and personally tests and optimizes each new product released by the much buzzed about botanical brand. After her co-founder, Metta Murdaya, revealed the Indonesian geniousity behind their brand in our inaugural "The Same Questions..." we couldn't wait to reveal the equally brilliant Japanese half of this Indonesian skincare powerhouse.

What is your first memory of beauty products?
Believe it or not, my first memory of beauty products is that of toners. I would watch my mother and my Japanese relatives spending the biggest chunk of their daily skincare routine patting a toner-soaked cotton pad on their skin. I was completely mesmerized by that meticulous ritual.

At what age did you start wearing makeup?
At age 15. I bought my first red lipstick and even face powder!

If you could apply only one product for the next month what would it be?
It’s now getting colder and drier in New York City, so I would have to opt for a good, hydrating moisturizer with natural antioxidants. I like our Sweet Black Tea & Rice Facial Moisturizer because even though it’s very hydrating, it’s not heavy and absorbs very quickly. And it’s a great base for make-up.

If you could give one product to all women in the world what would it be?
Our Tamarind Tea Hydrating Toner. It’s my secret weapon for healthy, radiant skin, man or woman. When we developed this product, I had the Japanese-style toners in mind and my mother and aunts who so meticulously applied toner to their skin. To them, these hydrating toners are key to achieving skin that’s brimming with water and vitality… like a fresh peach!

If you could ban one harmful ingredient from all beauty products what would it be?

Phthalates. They are truly toxic.

What is your favorite skincare ingredient?
Hyaluronic Acid. It pretty much makes every single product work better and it makes your skin look better.

What is the last product you created?
Our Sweet Black Tea & Ginger Mattefying Moisturizer. It combines the natural anti-aging properties of Fermented Sweet Black Tea (a.k.a. Kombucha) with the oil-control and purifying benefits of Ginger and Cinnamon. Plus it contains hyaluronic acid for oil-free hydration. It’s great for anybody who is interested in age-prevention but has oily skin or break-out prone skin.

Who is the business woman you most admire?
Anita Roddick. A true revolutionary and visionary who changed the face of the cosmetics industry. I saw her speak once at NYU. She had an amazing presence.

Whose beauty do you most admire?
All women that age gracefully and embrace how life, experience, age changes them, physically and mentally.

What was your best Spa experience?
I LOVE going to Japanese onsen (hot spring resorts). Once my parents took me to an Onsen by Lake Suwa, about 2 hours from Tokyo. It was in the middle of winter, super cold and we would bathe in these amazingly relaxing naturally hot springs outside with view of the lake. It was divine.

Besides your own, what is your favorite brand?
Eau Thermale Avene. I used to be the product manager for Avene before I started JUARA. I always thought the products are excellent, especially the thermal spring water, but when I travelled to France to visit the Avene Hydrotherapy Center, I realized how much tradition, wisdom and integrity was behind the products, the brand, the whole company.

Healthy Hair = Hot Hair: EO

In March of '08 when I walked into my very first celeb stylist appointment (where they invited me to come rather than me begging for their next available in like 2012) the shampoo girl was floored at the vibrant health of my hair. "I've only used EO's organic shampoo for two years," I truthfully told her. Little was I to know, that was the last sulfate-free breath these locks would take for 18 months. In the name of beauty editor duty I happily began testing all kinds of delightful, effective (but not organic) shampoo. Sometime last year my little neighborhood Whole Foods stopped carrying my EO conditioner, thus extinguishing any final attempts at organic hair care.

Meantime, my locks have been unruly and (except for when I visit my new hair boyfriend Neven) unsightly. Alas, my hair nightmare is over. EO has (finally!) redesigned and relaunched their entire look and my hair is building its way back to optimal organic health. After two paraben-free shampoos - no frizz, just happy healthy curls. After I picking up this artfully done "n m ai" shade of blue pressed powder while at the L'Oreal Headquarters gift shop I fell fast for the easy silvery shade. Chanel Noirs Obscurs Fashion Week Collection by Sarah Tattoo

It's no secret that I wait with baited breath the Chanel makeup palettes and looks created by the house specifically for their runway collections, but for the last few months I've been like a little girl before Christmas morning. When I saw the previews for the new limited edition fashion week Noirs Obscurs collection, I couldn't believe my luck!

Not only is it a luxe, ultra high quality (of course!) array of products, but it's a limited capsule collection that suits both the current fashion climes and my tastes all at the very same (fashionable) moment!

Noirs Obscurs was created to accompany the Fall/Winter Haute Couture collection, and once again, Chanel absolutely killed it on the runway. The pairing of Fall and Winter tones in rich, multi-faceted fabrics and textures are mirrored perfectly by the makeup. The Quadra Eyeshadow features deep mahogany, intense green, dark violet, and midnight blue, all in a lustrous, highly pigmented form. Chanel introduces Noirs Obscur as "Ultra-modern makeup shades – edgy, yet elegant iterations of the colour black – for eyes, lips and fingertips.", and, true to form, it seems they've managed to re-invent the color black.

Included in the colorway is a red-tinged black eye defining kohl pencil in a shade named Demoniac. The collection also offers two mascara options: Multi Dimensional Mascara, promising volume, length, curl and lash separation in a shade called Extreme Black, and an Intense Volume and Curling Mascara, also in the Extreme Black.

Perhaps the most exciting pieces of the collection are 3 limited shades of both lipsticks and nail polish. The lipstick is, of course, the traditional Rouge Allure Luminous Satin Lip Colour we know and love in Chanel; long wearing, smooth, with a lovely lustrous finish. Maniac is a deep, vampy red, Hysteria is a rich, blue based plum (just on point and in tune with the blackberry lip trends flooding all the runway shows-think Givenchy and Anna Sui), and Obscure is a darker, much earthier red with a lusty quality. (For the lip-gloss types, we are adoring the Furious lip gloss - a shade of luminescent brassy reddish brown.)

The impeccable trio of nail color matches up with the lips beautifully, in Diabolic-deep, rich, red, Forbidden-a mahogany, and Vendetta-that dark violet shade I'm loving so much this season. Ladies, this is a super Limited collection. Expect to be disappointed if you wait too long. Edgy, risky, yet altogether feminine and classic. Chanel absolutely stuns us again. Enjoy!

Chanel's new Foaming Mousse Cleanser and Anti-Pollution Rinse Off is showcased as a convenient solution to tired, dull skin in our sometimes overwhelmingly polluted environments. It's a thick, soft mousse that instantly made me smile. It felt luxurious and rich, and the closest comparison I can make is to shaving cream! It IS lightly perfumed, which if you're sensitive to this (like I am!) can be a bit of a turn off. My skin felt and looked incredibly clean, however, even squeakily so. Enjoy!

Supporting breast cancer research with our purchases in October is beneficial but only if those products aren't potentially giving us breast cancer in the process, no? I've decided this year to only support pink products that are not packed with carcinogens. No more than 10 percent of breast cancers are genetic, and science points to toxic chemicals and radiation as factors in the sharp rise of breast cancer incidence. Luckily we have the option of companies like EO producing healthier alternatives.

Beauty Fortuity: The Shaving Cream Revolution

Ladies it's time to relocate your leg lotion. The other night with body creams as far as the eye could see and not a shaving cream within eye shot, I decided to take a chance on love, or at least, lotion.

What is your first memory of beauty products?
I was 4 years old and my mom was in her bedroom going through her extra makeup which she kept in a shoebox in the top of her closet. She had this bright blue eye shadow that I remember thinking that I just HAD to try. I begged my Mom to put some on me. At first she said no but after I badgered her a bit more she relented and proceeded to apply the disco blue color on my little eyelids. All I could think was “WOW…now all I need is some of that bright pink lipstick in the bottom of that box and I will be SET”…she applied and I thought I looked GOOOOD!!! These days I have given up the bright pink lipstick, yet I still on occasion whip out my Bare Escentuals Glimmer Blue Moon eye shadow and turn things up a notch!!!!

At what age did you start wearing makeup?
Other than just play… I was able to wear lip gloss when I was 12

If you could apply only one product for the next month what would it be?
I would apply my moisturizer Hooray For Brallywood Butta. It makes my skin luminous.
If we are talking cosmetics….It would be my Bare Escentuals black eyeliner (you can do so much with eyeliner…clean line for a classic look or smudge for a Smokey eye.)

If you could give one product to all women in the world what would it be?
My 100% natural deodorant Take A Whiff! …It doesn’t contain harmful propylene glycol or aluminum chlorhydrate which is proving to be toxic and it has a pro-biotic in it that inhibits bacteria under the arm. Plus, it contains ingredients that stimulate the lymphatic system and nurtures the body!!!

If you could ban one harmful ingredient from all beauty products what would it be?
There are many, but the most harmful is Parabens. You may have heard about how you should avoid parabens in the products you buy, but you might be wondering why you should do so.

First, let’s look at where you might find parabens and what products they are normally in. Parabens can be found in shampoos, commercial moisturizers, shaving gels, cleansing gels, personal lubricants, topical pharmaceuticals and toothpaste. They are also used as food additives in some products. Basically, a huge percentage of the products you buy for everyday use contain some form of paraben.

One of the most important reasons I would ban Parabens is that they can mimic the hormone estrogen, which is known to play a role in the development of breast cancers and being a young breast cancer survivor who exercises, eats right and doesn’t have cancer in my family it is hard to say whether having slathered chemically laden….or paraben laden products on my body for years might have played a role in my early diagnosis.

The jury is still out on how and why parabens might affect development and growth of both babies and adults. But we have decided to get rid of any products that have it and replace them with products that don’t. There is no harm being careful with this kind of stuff…remember, things that were deemed safe in the past then came back to bite us all when we were told that they actually caused all sorts of diseases… when they are safe alternatives available and avoidable in the first place.

What is your favorite skincare ingredient? My favorite skincare ingredient is for sure Rose Hips Seed Oil. This oil is in all of my products because it is, frankly, a ROCKSTAR!
I use it in my No Scary Hairy because it improves the texture, restores moisture and balance, nourishes and rehydrates dull dry damaged hair and skin.

It is in my Hooray for Brallywood Butta because it has the ability to heal and fade scars and even out hyperpigmintation on the skin. It restores and repairs burned skin and is renowned as being the BEST most effective anti-aging oil available on the market. It alleviates fine lines and wrinkles and premature aging. Who is the business woman you most admire?
Oprah Winfrey. Seems logical and easy to say her but I really mean it. She got where she is by a lot of determination and hard work and she uses her success to help others and give back. That is a driving force for Pristine Beauty. We are a small company right now and we believe it is important to reach out and give to others. That is why we donate a portion of the proceeds to the Young Survival Coalition and the Cancer Prevention Coalition with every purchase all year long.

Whose beauty do you most admire?
I most admired Farrah Fawcett beauty. Honestly, I thought that she was awesomely beautiful when she was younger and even throughout her cancer treatment - not just in her physical features but I admired her beauty in the way she approached life. She had a strong spirit and a strong mind which made her business savvy and well-liked. Her love of life and will to live was undeniably as beautiful as her physical appearance.

The Radiant Concealer SPF 25 by La Mer: The New Fountain of Youth

Though it's only Tuesday, I've already worked twenty-one hours and I'm about to hunker down with some pasta and clock in a few more. Still, everyone insists I look radiant. Glowing, even.

Odd? Would be - except I have discovered the fountain of youth in La Mer's Radiant Concealer. Though it comes as a shiny, covetable mini-compact with a matching miniature brush I've taken to expanding its real estate on my face to any area with even a hint of hyper pigmentation (SPF 25 included in the magic makeup!!)

I have not looked this good, well, ever possibly. Q: You have made a real effort to “green” your show this season. How do you feel about this accomplishment?

Remember when I met Lauren Conrad as we both happened to be getting our hair done at Warren Tricomi Salon on Melrose? I know, I know it's one the highlights of this blog (my life?)

Anyhow although Lauren couldn't take a picture because she was makeup less at the time she did have her PR people provide all the deets on Amy Nadine's perfect application of her mark. makeup that night (her LA Fashion Week debut.) Amy updated Lauren's look for the VMAs yesterday and I must say Lauren is looking stunning as usual and perhaps even a little more grown up. Grown-up suits her, no?

Here are all the deets straight from Amy Nadine herself: (!!!! - love my life!)

“Lauren wore a beautiful black and cream Diane von Furstenberg dress. So we decided the inspiration for her look would be “smoldering sophistication”. Lauren wanted a statement eye so we started by lining her eyes with mark Get in Line Hook Up Waterproof Eyeliner in Painted Black with a sweep of mark I-mark Custom Pick Eyeshadow in Corset on top and smudged outward with an eyeliner brush.”

“I started by applying mark Speedway Do Everything in Natural and then dusted her face with mark Matte-nificent Oil Absorbing Powder in Natural/Buff. To further highlight and draw focus to her eyes, I used mark Get Bright Hook Up Highlighter in Light/Medium under her eyes and above her cheekbones. To give her that summer glow, I finished by dusting mark Good Glowing Mosaic Blush in Cameo Glo and mark Bronze Pro Bronzing Powder to her cheeks.”

I am so with Gwen on being over color. By the end of fashion week last year I was already sick of purple but it had somehow infused my whole wardrobe. I going back to black and camel and maybe some updated hunter green. Color is for makeup and accessories this winter.

Having just returned from Mercees Benz Fashion Week in New York's Bryant Park, I've seen more new product in the last 5 days than most people see in wal-mart all year long. Still, these little babies have stolen my heart. New York Fashion Week: Sebastian Professional's Faux Bob at Costello Tagliapietra

I'm dying over Costello Tagliapietra's frocks that debuted yesterday at New York Fashion Week. Famed designers, Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra presented Costello Tagliapietra Spring ’10 line last night at Milk Studios in Chelsea and (in a moment of genius) partnered with Sebastian Professional for a killer combination: the next direction in fashion and a shadow of beauty from the past.

DYING, though I'm not sure I could picture them with out these wistful, dreamy faux-bobs. Costello Tagliapietra’s Spring ’10 beauty look seamless combines elegance, youthfulness, natural beauty and romance. The hair, both feminine and fresh, is loosely inspired by the roll style of the ‘40s with soft curls that sit just above the shoulder.

The Hair Look:
Sebastian Professional lead stylist Thomas Dunkin recommends building texture and shape with techniques that keep the hair looking soft, romantic and not too “done.” Finish with an elastic touchable texturizer or flexible shine spray to create an elegant yet playful look.

DIY:

1) Apply Sebastian Professional Texturizer to damp hair; distribute evenly throughout.

2) Blow hair out straight with a medium to large-sized round brush.

3) Spray hair with a flexible hairspray for added texture, section hair, curl it with a medium-sized barrel curling iron and set.

4) Take out pins, gently brush out the curls and then roll hair under, section by section, fastening it under at the neck with bobby pins.

5) Apply Microweb Fiber to hands and gently work through the front of the hair to create an imperfect, lived-in effect. Finish by misting with a strong-hold hairspray.

Fashion Week Report: John Patrick Organic Show Hair by Aveda

I am completely adoring the look created by Odile Gilbert for Aveda at the John Patrick Organic
show. The modern, playful take on Bohemian-chic is absolutely worthy of my first fashion week post of SS10. Hair is smooth and shiny on top with soft, free-flowing curls below the cheekbone and volume at the front—pulled back into a barrette, adding a girly touch.

Here is what Odile had to say about his beautiful follicular creations:

Q: What was your inspiration for this look? How did you collaborate with the designer to create the look?
“I call this chic-bohemian look ‘the wave.’ Patrick was inspired by a photograph taken in the Krazy Kat Club in the 1920’s, where the girls embodied a “wholesome Bohemia” full of enthusiasm and creative spirit. We worked together to translate this inspiration into a look for the seductive, modern girl who attends private speakeasies. She is distinctive, intellectual, and very pretty—yet fun-loving and young.”

Q: How could a woman achieve this look on her own?
“This look is gorgeous and easy to recreate for day or evening. Prep hair with Aveda Phomollient™ Styling Foam and create a deep side part. Spray hair with Aveda Air Control™ Hair Spray and curl with a one-inch barrel curling iron. Brush through to create soft, full waves. Smooth the top of hair with Aveda Light Elements™ Shaping Wax to tame flyaways and achieve a smooth, modern finish.
