Guest Blogger Sarah Tattoo, Shiseido & NYFW

Sarah Tattoo & Narciso Rodriguez heart Shiseido this winter. Read Sarah's product rave below and check out the face chart from Shiseido artistic director Dick Page.

Products are: Shiseido White Lucent Brightening Cleansing Foam, White Lucent Brightening Refining Softener, and White Lucent Brightening Protective Moisturizer with SPF 16 PA++

Ladies, for years when the question of "what type of skin do you have" has been posed, I'm left agonizing over which box to tick. Is it oily, is it dry, is it sensitive, combination? Yes? Is there a yes to all box to check? Truthfully, my skin is the neon sign flashing all of my stress and worries. It flushes, it pales, but my greatest cause of self consciousness has always been the uneven tone and redness I have never been able to shake. Until now, that is. Shiseido was founded in 1872 (think about that for a moment, ladies, I was STUNNED!) making it one of the oldest and most prestigious beauty companies in the world. After many chapped winters and sleepless nights showing on my face, I've finally begun to soothe and nourish my skin in the way I've always hoped was available. My new year's resolution was to take just that little bit of extra time and consideration for my beauty routine, beginning with the ritual of cleansing. In the morning I wake to the faint fresh blossom scent of my brightening and cleansing foam, thick and luxurious. It's one of the most peaceful moments of my day. After cleansing I use the brightening refining softener, and finish with the SPF for a lightweight layer of moisture and protection. For the evenings I simply don't apply the SPF. It's only been 2 weeks and within the FIRST WEEK I saw a noticeable difference in the ages spots (let's be frank here, ladies), and the redness and uneven patches are really lightening. I'm truly happy with this trio of products and plan on expanding into the others in the series. I'll keep you posted on the improvements. Calm, bright, happy skin, here we come, and a little me time in my day is now a real routine!

Rodarte & Aveda @ NYFW

“The Rodarte hair look for this season is sleek and shiny—at once free-flowing yet controlled. I was inspired by the idea of a modern, young girl who is strong and capable yet sweet and innocent. The look is young and dreamlike, with handmade metal flowers that make a statement.”
–Odile Gilbert for Aveda

After the Girls from Rodarte chatted up long time supporter Natalie Portman they spoke with Aveda about the inspirations behind their latest look:

Q: What was your inspiration for this look? How did you collaborate with the designer to create the look?
“Kate, Laura, and I wanted to create a hair look with a dreamy, almost childlike feeling. From the front, the hair looks like it is left down, but in back, it is controlled, adorned with metal flowers that look like barrettes. There’s also a Mexican influence on the look, since the Rodarte collection this season is inspired by bordertowns. We wanted to reflect this inspiration with the vintage flower ornaments and shiny, side-parted hair.” –Odile Gilbert for Aveda

Q: What is the inspiration for your collection? What is the look you are capturing?
“Our collection this season explores the idea of sleepwalking. The idea of a dream state, or an in-between state, inspired us.” —Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte

Q: You have made a real effort to “green” your show this season. How do you feel about this accomplishment?
“Laura and I are committed to protecting the environment. Our greatest inspiration comes from the natural landscape that we grew up in, so we are proud to be partnering with a company like Aveda that promotes environmental awareness and responsibility.” —Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte

DKNY – FALL 2010 – February 14th
Hair by Wella Professionals

It took 29 years but I finally have skin like a model

Whether you're looking for a high-end SPA treatment in a DIY daily kind of way, or just a pure organic catharsis from the outside in you must try my new shower routine. Part German masochistic grandmother, part new age organic yoga mom, ALL soft model-like skin.
1) Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare Energising Body Wash ($21 for 6.7 fl oz)

This thick gel stimulates the skin with Damask Rose Water, Essential Oils of Eucalyptus, Geranium, Grapefruit, Patchouli, Peppermint, Petitgrain, Pine, Rosemary, Sweet Orange and Liz's personal favorite, Vitamin E. If you opt in for the brush, which is an essential skin care experience if you consider yourself even remotely interested in beauty or skincare, this gel is also thick enough to cushion the intense exfoliation delivered by those German made natural bristles
2) Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare Natural Bristle Body Brush ($14 made in Germany)

Since I received these items for free, I imagined the high quality of this brush would translate to a hefty sum. Hand crafted, easily removable head - a real work of art. Shocked to find out it's only $14. This trio could easily put day spas out of business.

3) Liz Earle Naturally Active Skincare Energising Hip and Thigh Gel ($8.50 1 fl oz) This is where the magic happens. All I can say is it makes me willing to believe that having even my oddly curvy thighs could potentially be a good thing. This is a minor miracle. You must.

Mémoire Liquide Reserve Edition Books®

In the beautysphere, when you say "Robin Coe-Hutshing" it's a bit like uttering the name of Poseidon at water's edge or speaking of "Oprah" at the journalism section of a college job fair. You will get a reaction and everyone instantly recognizes that you are speaking not only of the individual mentioned but also to the reason you are all gathered in the first place. Robin Coe-Hutshing has so defined the beauty industry that it could not actually exist as it does today with out her.

I sit tonight in the same writers studio I've rented for three and a half years. Surrounded by beauty products and burdened by the mountain of debt one accumulates while chasing a dream that pays only in product.

I've been tempted to give up. I've gone round and round about the increasing traffic and decreasing advertising (and even wondered if I am in fact contributing the demise of the magazine industry I so dearly love) but ultimately I land here at this moment with myself and Ms. Hutshing's stunning new debuts and I'm reminded why I do it. There have been other moments like this one. Interviewing Liz Earle, Anastasia (Oprah's eyebrow lady!), and of course Beyonce. Still this moment on the first night of February, is particularly sweet because it brings me directly back to the beginnings of Beauty's Spot.

In early 2008 my dear friends Erika and Kristen introduced themselves to me for the first time at Fred Segal in LA. Kristen had gathered an elite group of the world's rising (or simply promising) beauty bloggers and - being a woman who defined class in the beauty industry - treated each of us to our very own vials of Robin's bespoke Memoire Liquide. I still savor mine, making use of it only for the most promising dates and days that seem to need a nudge towards the celestial or serendipitous.

After 25 years of creating made to order, singular fragrances (read my first ML post for more) Robin and her sister Jennifer have launched five, heavenly, ready to wear fragrances. With no way to access the 15,000 plus other scents made over the years (as they are kept under locked, hand-written card file) we finally have a way to imagine just a piece of the bespoke library housed at Fred Segal. What a dream.

Housed within the pages of five unique keepsake books, each Mémoire Liquide Reserve fragrance tells a distinct story of a precious memory preserved forever. Inspired by the intertwining nature of scent and memory and the irrefutable power of this connection, the collection embodies the story of the beauty and inspiration that have gone into Mémoire Liquide Bespoke fragrances for years.

The Mémoire Liquide Reserve fragrances include:

Fleur Liquide
The memory of dew soaked flowers at dawn and night blooming flowers just before sunset Orange Blossom, Fresh Mimosa, and Night Blooming Jasmine

Vacances Liquide
The memory of a vacation on an idyllic tropical beach with warm, white sand and azure waves lapping the shoreline Tiare Flower, Fresh Coconut Milk and Tahitian Vanilla with Oceanic accords

Soleil Liquide
The memory of warm sunshine on a dazzling, bright summer dayFresh Grapefruit, Tangerine, Blood Orange and Neroli Flowers with Santal and White Musk

Amour Liquide
The memory of exhilarating romantic love, at once soul soothing and breath takingPure Madagascar Vanilla, Tonka Bean and Incense
