Rachel May be Getting Married but Anne Hathaway is Getting Ted Gibson.

I've met both Ted Gibson and Marriage (by proxy) and I'd say Anne Hathaway is getting the better deal, by far. Anywho, Remember when I interviewed Ted Gibson and he said the two looks he was most proud of were Angelina Jolie on the cover of Rolling Stone and Anne Hathaway at the Oscar's? Yes me too. Well it seems he won Ms. Anne over for life. She has looked radiant and flawless at every award show so far. And mostly the look is about Ted Gibson. In my experience Ted has so much love and talent to give you can't help but walk away from him feeling beautiful. Ted Gibson Salon at Hela Spa in Chevy Chase: Don't You Ever Get to Thinkin' He's Replaceable

For the past two weeks my hair has felt like a bad rash. My new job has me more tethered to North Carolina than I'm used to and so, to accommodate the 9 to 5 (or 10:30 depending on the day) life, I've had to abandon my previous hair boyfriends in LA and New York. The results have been much less than satisfactory.

But Ted Gibson, being the patron saint of hair (I say this sincerely as I earnestly believe he was put on earth to help materialize his motto - "Beauty is Individual" - as ultimate truth as well as a chic statement) was two steps a head of me. By opening his DC Salon at The Collection in Chevy Chase he has once again saved my hair and subsequently my self image.

The thing about people like Ted, who are blessed enough to be fulfilling their divine purpose, is that they attract equally talented, beautiful (kind-hearted) people like Neven. Neven began working at Ted's DC outpost before it even opened. Imported from Croatia on the basis that his talent is irreplaceable by an American citizen Neven is a heavenly combination of Gianni Versace and the statue of David. The Ted Gibson Salon at Hela Spa opened on Inauguration day weekend. With in a few hours a Croatian news crew had stumbled upon Neven and the headlines in Croatia were fairly equally weighted - Obama at the White House and Neven at Ted Gibson. Between Croatia's priorities and it's beaches, I'm seriously considering a move or at least an extended vacation.

Neven is a bit of a hair genius and I now have lovelier longer layers than ever before. (Pictures to follow tomorrow.) I realized while watching him artfully shape a style out my tangled brown mop (utilizing nothing more than an expert pair of scissors and massive reserve of natural talent) that no matter how thick your hair is, a master stylist will never need to use thinning sheers. Neven simply cut around the weight in such a way that the hair can move and live on its own volition. Like Michelangelo set the image of David free from that marble slab, so too Neven reveals beauty from whatever medium is lucky enough to find herself in his chair. If feeling like an iconic work of art (which mind you is the only thing that walks out of any Ted Gibson Salon) isn't reason enough for you to part with $150, consider what price you would pay to receive the best scalp massage ever from irreplaceable Croatian talent. Celebrated hairstylist Ted Gibson and makeup artist Vincent Longo created eye catching hair and makeup looks for the models on behalf of Beauty.com.

HAIR – Gibson wanted the hair to look like the models’ had gone out dancing the night before and then woke up the next morning, effortlessly slicking back the sides with gel to create a slightly messy but cool rocker chic style. Ted used Ted Gibson Fix It to gel the sides, and then created texture in the back of the hair with Ted Gibson Tame It. He finished the look off with Beautiful Hold hairspray.

MAKEUP – To contrast the dark and muted hues in Vena Cava's fall collection, Vincent Longo wanted to create a bright eye that popped. For a burst of excitement, he applied a thick orange eye liner followed by a black liner on top to provide depth and definition for the lashes. Then, he thickened and contoured the brows to frame the models' faces, and finished the look with a natural lip. Overall the complexion was matte and porcelain.

NAILS – Nonie mixed up a vibrant hunter green polish which nicely complimented Vena Cava’s fall collection and the bright orange eyes. The shade is called British Racing Green and will launch exclusively on Beauty.com in the fall.

Ted Gibson in the Total Beauty Suite

Ted Gibson caresses the female mane as if he is holding an actual new born baby. As guests walk into the Total Beauty suite Ted, handfuls of blond tresses creased between his fingers, is the first to relive everyone's nerves with frequent greetings of "Hello! How are you?" and "Come in and get yourself a muffin. There is juice!"

As a man who styles Angelina's hair clearly no one would expect him to also act as the welcoming committee but one gets the sense that it is simply his nature to be kind. A warm friendly manner is a rare find in the world of celebrity hair stylists but I am relieved that Ted’s demeanor is as precious as his talent. Even in the middle of Fashion Week, a treacherous intersection of who’s who in fashion and celebrity, it seems Ted is simply being himself and his self is simply warm kind and grateful.

"As a hairdresser I feel really lucky and blessed because I work on the most beautiful woman in the world not only in the salon but also celebrities. When I decided to launch my own line I needed to have products that could work on all of them. Angelina, Debra Messing, and all of the models at the shows. Regardless of skin color or hair texture I need to be able to pull out a few items from my bag to treat all of them. It's about an individual beauty and products that work for everyone."

Oozing humility and gratitude he speaks of his favorite creations: Angelina's Rolling Stone cover. Anne Hathaway for the Oscars and her InStyle cover. Angelina's stunning, pregnant-perfect, red carpet stroll for King Fu Panda. These are his triumphs. That and the products he creates for daily use.

For women new to his line he recommends beginning with the hair sheets, daily nourish, and daily cleanse. He says from his work in the salon he knows women are still washing every day even though they are not supposed to. More on my interview with Ted Gibson later….

Ted Gibson's Makeover Magic in Redbook Magazine.

It's no secret that I adore Ted Gibson. In fact I still revisit my interview with him on days when I miss fashion week. Ted lives to bring out the unique beauty in each woman and I promise if you turn yourself over to his magical hands for an hour you too will be a life long devotee. Naturally, I'm delighted to see his work in this month's Redbook (fronted by Mimi.) Ted was responsible for the hair portion of the makeover, pictured below, and she looks fab.

Ted Gibson Opens D.C. Outpost, Styles Inauguration Celebs!

I don't think I could have woken up to better news. On Monday, celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson opened the doors to his Washington-area salon, located at The Collection in Chevy Chase, Md. Chevy Chase happens to be directly in the middle of the two houses I call home up north. Ever Since I met Ted I have been dying to let him work his magic on my hair but had trouble justifying a trip to New York just for a haircut. D.C. however is on my agenda at least once every two months. Girls, I have finally finally found my man.

On opening day, the 24-chair, 4,000-square-foot salon was visited by actress Anne Hathaway and actress/R&B singer Tatyana Ali. Best known for her role as Ashley Banks on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,” Ali lent her voice to Obama’s presidential campaign song, “Yes We Can.”

Me (yesterday) after the best haircut ever. One day later, and (as per my usual Sunday routine) my hair is piled high atop my head. Last Sunday however it was an unimaginable maze of knots, curls and dead ends. Today it is a dainty, sprightly knot befitting a pre-pubescent (read: pre-frizz) school girl. Why the change? Neven at Ted Gibson's DC Hela Spa location is a miracle worker and my new hair boyfriend. Despite living fours hours south in Chapel Hill, NC I intend to be fully committed and see him at least every two months. Neven is pictured below working his magic on @silverlips, the brains behind Silver Lips Beauty.

I am so TiVo-ing this. You remember back in September when I interviewed Ted Gibson? Well I just adore him. Honestly he is impossible not to adore. So humble. So genuine. I love him. Not luv him. Not OMG I LOVE HIM. Love him love him. So this Thursday, at 10pm/9 Central, treat yourself to a man who adores women and toils endlessly to make them feel beautiful.

Just a few days ago I was watching this AMAZING video of Lela Rose talking about the hair and makeup at her spring show. (Fellow Ted Gibson fanatics - he's at 1 min 17 seconds in.) Now the makeup angels (and marketing geniuses) at Stila have developed this backstage-to-go kit recreating the looks from the Lela Rose SS09 show. See. Amazing!

Stila Backstage with Lela Rose and Beauty.com collection contains four key products used by every artist backstage at the very same Spring 2009 show. Stila Sun Shade 01 was used to bronze the models’ cheekbones. This bronzer is known for its amazing buildable color, which makes it a makeup artist favorite season after season. Girls, yesterday I went on the most fabulous beauty tour . Having participated in beauty tours of LA and New York I decided (due to the recent openings of Ted Gibson Salon, Hela Spa, Bliss Spa, The Red Door at the Willard, Juara's invasion of Celadon Spa, and the ultra hip new offerings at the Ritz Carlton Georgetown) that it was time to get my DC beauty girls together with my favorite brands and make a day of it.

The first hurdle was transportation. These are some of the most coveted bloggers in the country and they are used to being spoiled. Despite my well intentioned efforts to throw them all in my step-mom's SUV I knew that wouldn't fly. So I started with the connoisseurs of perfection, The Ritz-Carlton. After finding out they preferred US Sedan, I knew we had to have them.

I couldn't have been happier. If Yasser, our driver wasn't a well trained, professional attentive luxury car driver, I could have easily mistaken him for a stalker. Despite our getting lost in product and primping and getting off schedule several times. Yasser always knew where we were and would roll up at the exact moment we exited DC's most fabulous beauty haunts. The ride itself was hot. Part limo, part van, with flat screen TV and leather seats we had the paparazzi stalkin' - or at least several heads turning. Anytime your are staying at the Ritz's ultra hip Georgetown location or simply need to go anywhere in the DC area in style, US Sedan is the way to go. For reals. Tell Yasser I sent you!
